1. CHOOSE THE RIGHT VEHICLE FOR THE ROUTE
City and tarmac trips are fine in a saloon like a Toyota Corolla. But if you are heading to the Maasai Mara, Amboseli, or anywhere upcountry, you need a 4x4 — a RAV4, Prado, or Land Cruiser. Park roads are rough, and during the rains a 2WD will get stuck. When in doubt, go 4x4.
2. SELF-DRIVE OR CHAUFFEUR?
Self-drive suits confident drivers comfortable with left-hand-side driving and Nairobi traffic. But many visitors — especially first-timers — prefer a chauffeur. 3. UNDERSTAND THE INSURANCE
